Noisey Europeans!

Starlings make a big noise. We had a suet feeder on our bedroom window for a short while until the starling family discovered it. Before long we had Mum and 4 offspring making a racket for food.

Lizzie Would Have Loved Our Lobsters

I put my foot in the photograph to give you an idea of how big they were. This was one of the smallest (5-6Lbs) - the largest was 9-10Lbs.
And here they are bleaching out (from the sun) in the compost heap.

Sarasa Comet Goldfish

We put these 3 pretty fish into Frank's pond yesterday afternoon. This morning they were gone and we think a Heron had a healthy dinner or breakfast. The black things behind them on the rock are tadpoles.
Isn't that sad?

The Garden Zephyr Status So Far

Sunset in Brockport

We experienced a wonderful sunset in Brockport on Saturday. Complete with Mockingbirds.

First Home Grown Salad

On Sunday we had to do some thinning in our garden and nothing went to waste. Here ia a photo of our first home grown salad. The largest leaves are dandelion, the smallest light green ones are lettuce and the red and white stems are tiny radish plants. There is also arugula in there too. Delicious!
I think Lizzie is going to particularly appreciate this posting.

Not Every Weed Is Equal

Today I helped out here (Dick and his crew installed this pond 2 years ago).

This is the first time the pond got a thorough clean out. It was quite a mess.

While waiting for the pond to re-fill I was doing some weeding away from the pond and pulled out this...what do you think it is? I know. I am asking you to guess...

Spring Cleaning

We installed our plant propagator in the kitchen today which started me spring cleaning. In the process I found some of my artwork. The first is a view from the party house in Brockport, NY - looking across the yard to the garage and Mike and Mollie's house in the background. The scene makes me miss my garden. Even though I have started planting seeds in our garden up the hill, I cannot wait to get our window boxes going around the apartment. Our zone 4 last frost is any time through May 31st. Darn, I have to wait!
