The Freezing Rain Scene at Mum & John's

We have to wait and see about the 18 foot birch tree in the first photograph which is covered in ice and in the Yoga "Downward Dog" position. It is so brittle with all the ice on it that any human intervention (possibly a lengthy spell with a long extention lead and a hair-dryer - but I have not confirmed that with our resident Landscaper) could alieviate the situation.

We all have power back now. Ours came on about 24 hours before Mum and John's (possibly because of the broken transformer at the end of their road) shown in the previous post. (I would love a digital camera like Mum's).

The frozen-rain-scenery is beautiful.

Grounded by Freezing Rain

These pictures are from yesterday.

We are now without power. Luckily we have a gas stove so we can use the four top burners to raise the temperature in the kitchen. We heard on the radio that at noon 31,000 National Grid customers were without power in the area.

On my way into town today part of the road had been closed due to a broken tree limb taking the power line down right across the road. There was a temporary "Road Closed" sign just in front of the power line. There was a black truck in front of me. The driver made a quick decision and made his/her own diversion going cautiously off-road into a field around the road block and up a 45 degree bank out back onto the road on the other side. As I have an all-wheel vehicle I did the same. I must say that is the first time I have taken my Subaru off-road.

There will be more pictures to follow of broken telegraph poles, power lines down across the road.

Here are some more photographs...

Take a closer look at the sign in front of the broken pole.

The minivan is stuck. The driver has a cell phone and he/she called for help.

Hampstead Heath on His Birthday

Patrick, Annabel, Finbar and Alfred went to Hampstead Heath on Patrick's birthday. Annabel took these photographs. She said the weather was perfect.

I Switched

I switched. I have wanted a Mac for years and much of my work is conducted on my client's Macs so the timing was right.

I love my little MacBook.

Especially iBooth...
